  • Every human being will eventually die. Death is a fact of life. It cannot be avoided. Everyone knows that. Generally speaking, death cannot be controlled. But we can control what we do with our lives.

  • Hopefully, you will live a long, productive and happy life—a life you can be proud of, a life that uplifts others and leaves good things for your family.

  • An obituary is a brief story of a dead person’s life that will be read after they’ve departed. The story tells what he or she accomplished while alive.

  • What will your story say about you? Will it state that you blessed everyone you came in contact with and that you helped other people. Or will people have to make up something good to say about you? Will people be saddened at your departure from this life, or will they rejoice that you’re gone and can no longer hurt anyone else? The choice is yours to make. You decide your character and behavior.

  • Nobody is perfect and we all mess up and make mistakes. So have forgiveness in your heart for people, because you will need to be forgiven at some point. Some say experience is the best teacher. But there are too many mistakes in this world to think that you have to experience them all firsthand in order to learn. Then your entire life would just have been a mistake. I say, learn from others’ bad experiences and mistakes. Do unto others, as you want done unto you.

  • You will probably have an obituary written about you when you die.

  • Below is a blank obituary. Write your name at the top of it and write what you want people to say about you and what you want people to remember about you after you pass away. If you think that they will only say unpleasant things, then change their narrative by writing what you want them to say and what you want them to remember about you. If you think you’ve done something wrong, you might feel like a bad person right now. No matter how bad you are now, as long as you're still living, you have the opportunity to give people something good to remember you by.

OBITUARY OF:

____________________________________________________

(Write your name at the top of this page. Then imagine what you would like your obituary to say about you. Write whatever you want and in any style that you like. For instance, you could write a list of your future accomplishments and describe yourself. You can explain how you overcame obstacles and challenges. Or you can write a creative and imaginative short story about yourself. You can also write your obituary as a poem or a song, including a rap song, if you choose. This is your opportunity to express yourself and say whatever you want to say about you.)
